The weather network says it's warm today, but because it's cloudy and because rain is expected later today, it feels far cooler than it is. This is a good thing for Nick, so that he can keep his temperature down (it seems to have been slowly climbing, and I'm hoping that's not a resurgence of his fever, but instead maybe more due to the fact that it's been a bit warmer for the past couple of days), and it also means that it's a good day to enjoy a hot cup of tea. One of the things that I dislike about summer is that it's too warm to drink tea without ending up overheated.
I'm almost finished reading N K Jemisin's The Kingdom of Gods, which, if I take the time to do so, I can probably finish today. The question is what to read after that. I recently got my hands on a copy of Veronica Roth's Insurgent, which I've been looking forward to reading for a while now. But I do have other advance copies of books that should probably be read and reviewed before I move on to things that are already out and that didn't come to me in the form of an advance copy.
It looks like most of the books due out this month that I got copies of and that look the most appealing are YA novels, which is good in that they're light reading and quick to get through, but less good in that reading a lot of YA often leaves me very hungry for something bigger and better.
But July looks pretty good for releases like that anyway, so maybe I ought to concentrate on some YA this month.
I know I want to take a look at Emmy Laybourne's Monument 14, and Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. I've heard some good things about Sarah Zettel's Dust Girl, too, which comes out later this month, so I'll try to fit that one in also. And I'm definitely making time for Jo Anderton's Suited, since I enjoyed the previous book in the series so much. Paul S Kemp's The Hammer and the Blade is also one that I'm anxious to read, though that might have to wait until a bit later. Maybe in early July. We'll see.
I keep thinking that my reading time will be cut back when I go back to work, but I have to remind myself that I'll have the bud rides to read through, as well as my breaks and lunch time. And I won't be distracted by sewing or embroidery or anything of the sort while I'm at work, so that will mean the only way to fill my spare time will be to read. I'll have a guaranteed hour a day, sometimes more, to do nothing but bury myself in a book, and those hours add up. I know I'll find the time.
I learned today how to make paper beads, which is wonderful news for the old magazines that I have collected over the years. I previously was cutting them into strips and weaving the strips to make coasters and boxes, but now I can also make beads. I foresee a lot of beaded jewellery in my future, now. Possibly some that might even convince me to wear jewellery myself! There's nothing better to advertise your craft business than by wearing or using your own products in public.
And now, because I'm run out of things to say here, I'll get off my computer and go curl up with a book and enjoy the coolness of the day by combatting it with hot tea.
